Further advice

All public sector organisations recognise that efficient and cost effective procurement is only possible with a solid base of suppliers that are able and willing to service their organisations with high quality products and services at a competitive cost.

Therefore, there are a number of organisations and initiatives which have been put in place to help companies do business with the public sector and ensure that their experiences of tendering for public contracts is fair, transparent and impartial.

Organisations

There are a number of organisations that provide advice and support to companies interested in tendering for public sector contracts.  Scotland Excel works with many of these organisations, and we regularly attend their events to provide information on our contracts and tendering opportunities.

Suppliers interested in local government contracts can contact the Supplier Development Programme - a local authority partnership which offers information, support and training to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Scotland Excel attends many of the Supplier Development Programme 'Meet the Buyer' events that take place around Scotland.

Business Club Scotland is an initiative to help Scotland's business community capitalise on the country's ambitious events programme, including the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Their aim is to provide support to Scottish companies tendering for contracts generated by Scotland's current and planned investment in major events.

Membership organisations such as Chambers of Commerce or the Federation of Small Businesses may also have useful information and events which relate to public sector tendering.

Suppliers' Charter

The Suppliers' Charter is a joint statement agreed by public sector procurement organisations and businesses to improve access and remove barriers to procurement opportunities. Scotland Excel is an active participant in the Suppliers' Charter.

Single Point of Enquiry

The Single Point of Enquiry (SPoE) provides suppliers with an impartial point of contact where they can ask questions or raise concerns about public procurement practices in Scotland. It's remit is to advise suppliers on procurement legislation and processes, resolve procurement practice disputes, and improve the consistency of public procurement processes.
