Food Price Freezes

Frozenpeas

Savings of c. £1m for local authorities on Scotland Excel's frozen foods and groceries contracts.

Scotland Excel's contract for frozen foods, which was due to expire on 30 June 2012, has been extended for a year following negotiations with incumbent supplier, Brake Bros Ltd. (Brakes).

Scotland Excel's procurement team and Brakes have reached an agreement which secures fixed pricing for this contract until January 2013. A similar arrangement will also apply to a second contract supplied by Brakes for groceries until April 2012.

In total, local authorities using these contracts will be able to save almost £1m as a result of these negotiations. With food inflation rates forecast to be c. 5% over the coming year, this presents customers with an opportunity to plan their spending more effectively.

Scotland Excel and Brakes recently hosted an open day for local authorities to meet with the supplier. The event was attended by more than 30 representatives from 18 organisations, and provided a platform to see, taste and discuss the wide range of products available from Scotland Excel's food contracts.

A tendering process is currently underway for a new groceries contract which begins in May 2012. A Prior Information Notice (PIN) for the contract has been advertised in Public Contracts Scotland and a workshop for potential suppliers was held in September. The full tender opportunity is expected to be advertised by mid November.
