Buying Solutions becomes Government Procurement Service.
Following a ministerial review, Buying Solutions has changed its name to Government Procurement Service and will support government plans to reform procurement, deliver significant cost reductions and provide an improved service to customers.
The organisation will play a key role in delivering centralised procurement of common goods and services, led by the Government's Chief Procurement Officer, John Collington.
During the coming year, centralised procurement will be implemented for energy, office solutions, professional services, travel, fleet, ICT and print management. Additional categories will be added as the programme develops over the coming months.
Although there will be a new focus on centralised procurement , the existing frameworks operated by Buying Solutions will remain available to customers across the UK public sector. In addition, many of the new centralised arrangements will be available to public sector organisations outside of central government.
