Salt - updated guidance leaflet for 2011/12

Helpful hints for buyers and users of winter salt
Scotland Excel has updated its guidance leaflet which accompanies the Salt for Winter Maintenance contract.
The guide is a useful resource for anyone involved in ordering and using salt supplies to treat roads and pavements during the winter period. As well as background information about salt production, it also contains tips for planning delivery logistics and making effective usage of supplies.
The guidance leaflet is available for download in pdf format which can be circulated by email to colleagues or printed for display on notice boards.
Website members can access more information about the Salt for Winter Maintenance contract by logging in to the Members' area and using the online catalogue.
Last dates for orders from Peacock Salt
For bagged salt - 5kg, 10kg, 15kg, 25kg and 1 tonne bags - and for all spreaders and equipment - the last day for placing orders for delivery before Christmas is Friday 16th December at 4pm. Orders received after this date may be possible between Christmas and New Year, but this cannot be guaranteed and may have to be completed in early January.
For bulk salt, orders need to be with Peacock Salt by 4pm on Monday 19th December to allow for delivery before Christmas. Again, orders received after this date may be possible between Christmas and New Year, but this cannot be guaranteed and may have to be completed in early January.
It is important to note that the above dates create a period of about 3 weeks during which only very few deliveries will be made. We would ask that you ensure that you can cope with a cold weather period should this occur.
