Case Study: Lighting up Scotland’s roads
Street lighting framework helps councils make significant energy savings and reduce their carbon footprint.
Sustainability initiatives are embedded into Scotland Excel’s procurement process from the outset. Indeed, the Street Lighting Materials framework is an exemplar for sustainable procurement.
As the first national framework to incorporate a lot for Light Emitting Diode (LED) lanterns, it is designed to meet the evolving street lighting requirements of councils. The framework offers councils the opportunity to make significant energy savings and reduce their carbon footprint through investment in LED technology.
The framework supports the Scottish Futures Trust (SFT) street lighting energy efficiency investment programme for Scotland, which helps councils identify funding opportunities to replace existing street lighting assets with low energy alternatives. Glasgow City Council was the first to finalise a deal with the Green Investment Bank in 2015 to kick-start the first phase of their LED light replacement programme.
