Scotland Excel recently launched an accredited Leadership and Management programme open to local authority and other public sector delegates. Launched with Inverclyde Council in November 2016, the year-long programme offers delegates the opportunity to earn a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Diploma.
The Diploma follows a modular, blended-learning approach, combining monthly face-to-face workshops with online learning and work-based practice. The Diploma course work is assessed by Scotland Excel and, on completion of this Level 5 qualification, participants can apply for CMI Chartered Manager status through the exemption route.
The workshops comprise several topics which develop good leadership and management practices including stakeholder engagement, project management, innovation, risk and change management. All learning is supported through the Scotland Excel Academy’s online platform where participants can download learning materials, upload assignments and communicate with fellow students.
Councils can also work with Scotland Excel to implement a bespoke course for their organisations. At Inverclyde, leadership and management was combined with specialist modules on social care commissioning to create the Leading and Managing Strategic Commissioning programme for care professionals and third sector partners and other councils have expressed an interest.
