Sustainability policy and strategy
Our sustainability policy
A sustainable approach to procurement generates benefits not only to the organisation, but also to society, the economy and the environment.
Sustainable procurement decisions embrace whole life costing and address how aspects such as design, manufacturing materials, operating costs, energy consumption, waste and recycling options support a more sustainable approach.
Our sustainability policy supports our aim to practice responsible sustainable purchasing within our organisation's activities whilst promoting and supporting sustainable improvements and initiatives within both the local authority sector and our suppliers.
Our sustainability strategy
Scotland Excel is working closely with the Scottish Government to embed responsible sustainable procurement at the heart of our sector. In partnership with our local authority members, we are implementing initiatives to meet the substantial challenge of balancing social, economic and environmental issues with a drive for best value.
Our sustainability strategy is aligned with the Scottish Sustainable Procurement Action Plan which encourages organisations to take a holistic view of the social, economic and environmental implications of product and service choices.
There is a dual focus in Scotland Excel for delivering change. The first is inside our own organisation as we embed sustainability into our procurement strategy, process and plans. The second is supporting local authorities in their adoption of the national plan through toolkits, our learning and development initiatives, and the Procurement Improvement Programme.
